What a weekend it was at the inaugural Atlantic Comic Con! Held at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel in Norfolk VA, this event turned out to be far more than just another comic convention—it was a spectacular showcase of creativity, community, and the sheer joy of fandom. From the bustling crowds to the unforgettable interactions with fans and creators alike, Atlantic Comic Con truly set a new standard for first-year conventions.
An Outstanding Turnout
I have to start by applauding the sheer volume of attendees. For a convention’s first year, the turnout was nothing short of astounding. The place was packed with enthusiastic fans, eager to explore the array of vendors, panels, and the artist alley. It was clear that Atlantic Comic Con had tapped into a deep well of excitement and support within the community. The energy was electric, and every corner of the convention center was brimming with life and passion.
Reconnecting with Unexpected Creators
The beauty of these conventions lies not only in discovering new artists and writers but also in the chance to reunite with familiar faces. The camaraderie among creators is a reminder of why conventions are such a vital part of the industry.
A Sell-Out Success
On a personal note, I am thrilled to share that I sold out of my books by the end of the convention! I shipped my books to the venue and was dreading having to pay to fly them back home. If you’re an author who travels for events, you know what I mean! But baby, I came back home empty-handed! I am deeply grateful to all the readers who picked up a copy of my books and to those who stopped by to chat. Your support and enthusiasm made the experience even more rewarding.
(This is when I realize I didn't take pics of everyone holding up their books!)
And a HUGE shout out to the three people who said, “Give me one of everything!”
Looking Forward to Next Year
As the event drew to a close, I couldn’t help but feel excited about the future. The success of this year’s Atlantic Comic Con has set the bar HIGH, and I am already looking forward to returning next year. I plan to bring more inventory to meet the demand and make sure that no one leaves empty-handed.
To wrap this up (because I have books to write), the first Atlantic Comic Con was a remarkable success—a testament to the passion and dedication of its organizers, attendees, and participants. It was a weekend filled with connections, creativity, and the undeniable joy of being part of such a vibrant community.
Here’s to many more successful conventions in the future, and I can’t wait to see what next year has in store!
